I have a 76 CJ5 which of course requires the change to a 78 and later motorcraft distributor. I have the distributor, cap, rotor, in place. I have a new high energy coil for it and have it in place. I have done no wiring yet.

My problem is the wiring. The old distributor had two wires connected to it, a blue one and a yellow one. The new distributor has three coming from it, orange, purple and black. I understand the black one is not used. Other than that I do not know which wires go where.

I had planned on using the stock Ignition Modules. Will this work or do I need to go to a different module?

I could not find the wiring diagram on the Team Rush website. There was a place for it, but the diagram was not there.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Can't help a lot I guess. is there a diagram in the service manual for a 78?

I know it is kind of expensive but I highly recommend the MSD6 cap discharge unit. dependable, guaranteed and will damned near light up wet cord wood.:D

I know there's an adapter that plugs in there but that may not be all you need. Need to find those diagrams. I can check on Sunday if you don't get help by then.

You will need a module for the Motorcraft ignition. Using wiring diagrams found in the Hayne's Jeep CJ manual, should get you going. Following the parts required for the Team Rush Upgrade in this forum, like cap, rotor, adapter, and wires, so there will be no problem.

Another option would be adding an MSD module, for the best improvement. There would be wiring info there also. A simpler wiring option would be to add an hei distributor, like most guys do with the pre '78 Jeeps.

I found the information I need on the Jeepforum. There is a lot of info there. The information I needed is at

Ignition swaps for '77 older jeeps - JeepForum.com

There is also a thread there that appears to be definative for all of the Rush upgrades on various Jeeps located at

I-6 'TeamRush Upgrade' (definitive) - JeepForum.com

Between those two pages I think all the Team Rush upgrades are dealt with. At the bottom of the definitive thread there is a list of references to other applicable pages.

I do appreciate all the help mentioned above. My greatest thanks to all who answered.

God Bless

That is a lot of good info, I was hoping to find a complete wiring changeover for your project. Regarding your first post, the black wire on the distributor is for the ground wire on the Motorcraft icm, which should go to the battery negative. Good luck with your conversion.
