Temp Gauge Question...

I have a 79' CJ5 , the temp gauge works, but doesn't give an accurate reading. It reads about 3/4 at normal operating temp. All my grounds are good, my gauges and temp sender are both new. Is there a way to dial it in to read more accurately?

3/4 of what? Does your gauge have numbers on it?

A lot of guys go to mechanical gauges for a better readout.

Does not have numbers. The needle is reading about 3/4 of the way up form cold on the gauge. I would think at normal operating range the needle would be reading somewhere in the middle. I might have to consider mechanical gauges if I cant get a more accurate reading. Thanks

If your engine isn't over heating when the gauge is at the 3/4 point, I wouldn't worry about it. A new gauge would give you a better idea of what the actual tempature is. but if it's not over heating i would take the 3/4 mark on your gauge as normal operating temp.

Doesn't sound like a problem to me. The replacement I'm running sits about 1/3 of the way up the scale. Temp guages are useful for seeing a raise or occasionally a drop in running temperature.

When I was diagnosing gauge issues on 'BB' I found out that, since the '80's getting quality made in USA gauges for CJ's is a tall order. I went through three before I found some N.O.S. gauges from the '70's and they continue to read true to the mark. This didn't stop me however, from plumbing/wiring in new mechanical gauges.
