Hi Guys, i have a faulty temp gauge, i don't think it's the sender unit in teh engine, but more a faulty guage or wire. How do i get to it? does the dash have to come off. ? The fuel gauge is reading funny as well, sometimes it's fine but most the time it's says it's full, so again i'm sure there is a wireing prob somehwere. I'm thinking the PO maybee mucked up the wires whith his sterio.

Cheers for your help.

I would make sure you have a good ground to the gauge and do a resistence check on the wire and also check the physical condition of the wire under the hood. If I remember correctly the gauge bolts to the back of the dash :chug:

You don't have to take the dash off but it can make things easier. Of all the gauges the fuel and temp are the easiest to reach being on the bottom of the speedometer. Some how I think I would check to see if the right wire was on the right gauge. Do you have a service manual yet??

I have a 78 CJ5 the fuel and temp gauge are connected together I had to replace mine and it is a pain. They still did not work right so I put in after market ones.

The good news is , you don't actually have to read anything, just look at the pictures. in this case the schematics. The universe provides.

Thanks Guys i'll have a good fumble around :)

Yes i have a manual but being a typical bloke i havn't read it yet :)

Mort, Don't know if you resolved your issue with the temp gage but here is a link with some great info put together by John Strenk.

CJ Speedometer Gauge Quick Test

This info has a great help to me a couple of years ago and my gages still work just fine.

Good Luck..........
