Temperature Cable Rod, where does it connect?

Im talking about the rod that the temp cable operates. Where the temp cable connects to the lever , theres a rod just above it that operated when the temp knob is pushed or pulled. The rod on my CJ7 is not connected to anything on the drivers side. Just a peice of metal with a short spring hanging there. Anyone have a pic of where it connectsor can describe where it connects?
