OK, just looked under the dash to get a look at the wiring on my new to me 86 CJ7 to get an idea as to why the temp and gas gauge don't work. Easy to see there not hooked up, the wires are there. I think the PO may have had afternarket gauges at one time. I know there should be a regulator jumper cable between the two gauges but it's not there. Can this be purchased or can i just run a wire between the terminals. I have looked online but only see the gauges,

The temperature gauge has a voltage regulator built in that supplies reduced voltage to the fuel gauge. (If I recall) The connector bar simply transfers power between the gauges.
To my knowledge, it was not available separately as a replacement part.

Probably best to check the voltage output of the temperature gauge before connecting a wire to the fuel gauge. The output voltage to the fuel sender is reduced, and testing the sender wire with a test light will indicate low power with pulsating flashes. The pulsating flashes will indicate that the temperature voltage regulator is operating as it should.

You could verify all of the above by referring to the factory service manual for your year and model.

Sounds like you might encounter other wiring problems from changes the PO made. If this is the case I would suggest a good wiring diagram. The can be found in some of the service manuals, but for the money I suggest you get one from Prospero's Garage I completely rebuilt my wiring harness and this was a big help.
