I found out yesterday that to get my jeep inspected it will have to have a cat converter. I have duals with cherry bombs out the side. It's an 81 is there any other way around this? I'm intexas

For pre-1984 vehicles, the cat converter is not part of the inspection. That said, there is also a requirement that if it came with one it should not be removed. Confusing? Yup. If it came with one, it's supposed to be there, but they're not supposed to look for it pre 1984. FWIW, I 'desmogged' my 81 CJ7 (cat, smog pump, carb upgrade, etc.) and it has passed inspection repeatedly with no question. And not in a fly-by-night facility. Now, if the feds come looking, I might have a problem.
