This weekend the motor I got to install in my CJ5 needed some work, mostly a new water pump and the valve covers needed new gaskets (the garage I bought it from removed the valve covers to show how fresh the motor was). This is a AMC V8 with an AC pump.
The gaskets were no big deal at all. A fresh coat of paint and on they went.
Removing the water pump, while not difficult, proved to require the removal of the AC pump and the Altinator along with all the brackets. Naturally I didn't take the pictures I should have. There are long bolts, short bolts, small bolts, big bolts. Most went on logically, but I was stumped when it came to the altinator. No configuration or location imaginable worked. Finally at 1:00 am I had ENOUGH. A google search for "images" finally gave me a few nice clean pictures of the same engine configuration I was working on. As it turns out I was trying to use the wrong bolt for the altinator. The one I needed was higher and sort of hidden. Also the spacers supplied with the water pump began to make perfect sence.
