Well I bought my first jeep which is a 85 CJ7 Laredo . I have it running pretty good I just have a question about the air intake tube that runs from the cold air intake directly down to the block. I haven't seen that before. Glad to be part of the group.

(assuming I understand) I think that is to assist getting the engine temp up to normal ranges as quickly as possible before pulling in cold air -- thus improving operations and emissions. An old truck of mine was dinged during a smog check for not having the $2 flex tube.
 
Yes. The tube runs to a flange bolted to the exhaust manifold. There is a vacuum actuated flap in the air cleaner assembly that when the engine is cold opens so that the carb can suck hot air off the exhaust manifold, warming the carb up quicker. Once the engine warms up the vacuum cuts off and the flap closes allowing cool air from the grill to the carb.
