Thermostat

Ok my mama told me I'm not a smart man.............I did a stupid thing I'm replacing the thermostat in my Jeep I was 99% sure that the thermostat said which way the thermostat went in. Well I just found out that it doesn't. I have a '79 with a V-8 can someone help me with which way is the right way to install the thermostat? I would prefer not to make the mistake and put it in backwards. Any assistance who be highly appreciated. Thank you.

The side that is round and flat (the thermocouple side) goes to the engine. The cone goes to the radiator hose.

the spring part of the t stat allways goes into the engine.
