the guy that stopped at my house had this done to his cj. i liked it and want to do it to mine. what years ford trucks do you get these off of?

i just bought some new skyjacker front shock from a guy at work that had them on the rear of his xj. i put them on and they worked alot better than the ones that i had on that where to short. they where about 25"s long and are compressed alot more on mine so im sure if i do this these shocks will work.

Dalefan88, I don't remember wahat year they are for but here's a pic with the part #
There's some other pix in my gallery it the tec section. The web has a few writeups also.

where did you get yours olddog? we have no pick and pulls around here. all the junk yards around here crush everything.

What does the Ford shock tower do for the Jeep, Dalefan? is it for just the front, or the rear?

it just for the front. it gives you more shock travel and articulation.

I see, I will have to look more into this, as I have to replace my towers anyways, front and rear, as the stock design won't withstand the abuse.

Dalefan I got them from the ford dealer, they were only 14 bucks each a couple years ago.

dam thats not bad. dont look like to hard of a project. notice alot of difference olddog.

Yea they helped me. My shocks were my bump stops before I changed the towers, now thet don't bottom out anymore.:)

I have relocated a few sets of shocks in the rear also
I relocate top and bottom so they set to the outside next to the backing plate and slopes inward, Helps articulation. I use stock bottom mounts and have to make top mounts but it worth the effort
It is on my long list for the 67, the new frame for the 70 I have already done.

any pics of the rear?

Baja, you wouldn't happen to have a picture would you? I am still in limbo with what I am going to do, and any different ideas are appreciated.

Sorry Dalefan, I failed to go to page 2.

I can take a few of the frame I am doing for my CJ6

now remember it is not a CJ frame, but a TJ frame but I have the axles in it

what is done is I put the bottom mount as far out as possible, that is to get it out of harms way, near a tire where it will be in the air not scraping a rock.
the tops are slopped inward a bit to help when the axle swings upward. That bracket that moves the upper mount I fashioned after a kit that a company called Nth degree made. (the were bought out and many products discontinued) I will get picks tomorrow and post them.

no problem.

Thanks Baja, the concept will still be the same, no matter the frame. I am just a visual person, need to see it to understand better. i like the idea of moving the shocks out, makes sense.

on all the newer ford trucks they did the same thing on the rear shocks.

Moving the leafs outward of the frame aids in stability, I can assume the shocks would too, but There isnt a whole lot of room around the rear tires on a Jeep. I am interested to see it, cause my only option at this point is to rebuild at stock, and that will make for little travel

i forgot to ask, is the towers off a 4x4 or a 2 wheel drive? i found a guy parting out a 90 ford bronco will they work?

4x4 I think. I looked for the write up I used for the part number but I guess I didn't save it, and I don't remember where I found it in the first place.
Just ask for that part number thats all I did.
Or you could try google I'm sure theres a few write ups on it.
