thinking of doing ford shock tower

thinking of doing ford shock tower
thanks olddog. i think i found my next project when i get paid lol.

I got carried away working in the yard today and forgot the pics
will get them tomorrow. It was only 83 today so I went for it.:chug:

ok i got some ?s. i did some research and all the pics i can find are of newer cj that have the bolt on shock mounts. they all use one bolt hole in the frame from the old mount. this looks like it moves the shock mount back on the frame which makes the shock lay back some. my mount is welded and the shock is mounted straight up and down. so my ? is do i put the new mount so it is straight up and down or do i mount it alittle towards the back like on the newer cjs. if i mount it straight up and down i will have to cut alittle on the wheel well for clearance but thats no biggy.

I just mounted mine where they looked like they would work the best.

I have a one piece glass nose so I'm sure mines different though.
I also don't have stock mounts on the axle anymore either.

well i order my towers. they where $12.70 a piece from my local ferd, yes i said ferd dealer lol. i know the parts guy there so hes going to hold them for me till i get paid next friday. ill go get them then, head to tsc to buy some grade 8 bolts by the pound and get hacking on it lol.

well i got all the parts today. $54 total not bad. i got the mounts cut off today. hopefully tomarrow i can get it grinded down and all the parts on.

What all did you get for the $54? Can I see some pics of this Dalefan? I went ahead and pulled my old shock mounts off, eagerly anticipating getting started getting the frame ready to go.

i got the towers, a bag of grade 8 bolts, and a plate of steel from tractor supply company. im using the steel plate to mount on the back side of the frame so when i tightin up the bolts it dont cave in the frame.

I see, good thinking on the plate. I will probably weld mine in. Do they bolt right into the same location, or are you making new holes?

You have to drill new holes.

well i got one side done so far. the only thing i think is wierd is that it makes the top of the shock lean out further than the bottom. is yours like that olddog? it looks like your lower mount is different from mine.

yea the top does lean out a little further.
My shock mount was on the bottom spring mount and I had it moved to be welded on the axle, when I did the u-bolt flip.

wonder if i can reuse the ones i cut off the top and have my buddy weld it to the axle.

dam rain  i need a garage. i was wanting to get this done today.

Just pretend that you are doing a trail repair, and you have to get it done :D. Then you can it take it for a shake down run and splash in some puddles.

ya but electric drills and grinders dont like water. looked at the radar and it should be done in a hour. all i have left to do i get this one in position, mark it, drill the holes and button it all back together.

got it done :D looks sweet but have to wait for the wife to get home to test it.

Send that thing over my way so we can find out what is going on. It's time we see some pics of the progress you have made.
