Build Thread Thisguy`s 85 Laredo Build

I am getting this jeep from a buddy in my hometown of Mobile Alabama. It is a 99% rust free 85 Laredo and has a rebuilt 360 with the T-176 tranny. The story behind the jeep is it sat at the local off-road shop for several years because the owner never paid for the engine swap. when the shop decided to change locations my buddy ( who is like the local cj guy) was given the opportunity to purchase the jeep for cheap. his intention was to frame off the cj and return it to completely stock Laredo glory with the decals, AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l the whole nine yards and then sell it at a profit.

I offered to buy it as is and we agreed on 5500 for the jeep. I still have to pay someone to trick it up to me so I will have to factor shipping into the costs.

Here are my build plans for the jeep:

convert the interior to Laredo honey (just like the look better), clean up the body and miscellaneous missing Laredo package details. repaint and reinstall the Laredo decals.

customized tuned port injection for the 360

Going to ditch the T-176 and install a nv3550 5 speed out of a 03 tj

various upgrades hydraboost/or 95 yj dual diaphragm brake booster, blazer blower motor etc.

When I am finished my goal is to have a stock looking Laredo with modern Transmission and fuel injection

I tried posting them through the upload function but it seems to not be working so I send free thread any way and went to photo bucket but couldn't postpics until the thread was approved.

So even though I have been brokering this deal for the last 3 weeks and it isn't quite finalized plus the jeep isn't in my hands. I have been wheelin' and dealin' mostly through craigslist to acquire parts for this build. My storage room is simply tripping over CJ parts.

Here is a list off the top of my head:

Complete Bulltear.com Aluminum serp kit for AMC V8
All the TPI stuff , custom intake, Miles of corvette wiring
HEI dizz
Nv3550 tranny
Complete YJ spice soft top, supposedly mopar brand
Bestop 2 piece spice soft doors
5 cans of SEM camel spray paint for painting the top and misc interior pieces
a complete set of honey Laredo seat skins and grab bar... this was not cheap to acquire.
CS series alternator for better power output at idle.

Thats about all the parts I can think of but I know I have more I am forgetting.

I need to make it down to a pic and pull because I want to combine that serp kit with a contour fan to really clean up the engine compartment.

Still has the original chrome grill cover. Looks like Yj mirrors? I wish my Limited had the A/C option. See "Red Mistress" on the other forum about trading out those door panels. Did it have a working clock as well?

limiteds came with ac if yours did not have ac then someone junked it before you bought the jeep. red mistress in CJ8 forum? no idea if the clock with at the moment. the jeep won't officially be in myhands for a few weeks.

your more than welcome to the T-176 however I don't have a timeframe for when I will get to removing it. I am probably going to focus on the tpi and serpentine conversion first. I don't have a garage to work out of over the winter... unless you guys want to loan me yours

Yup , if he doesnt want them he probably knows someone who will.

the cj was delivered from mobile to my pa this evening. everything went smoothly and the shipping was a pretty good experience. my dad fiddled with the jeep before sending the jeep it and so far for some unknown reason everything goes dead when you hit start and will not come back online until you remove the pos cable from the bat and reinstall it. also the clutch pedal does not disengage the tranny when in gear.

I LIKE I LIKE very similar to what I am trying to build if you are going tuned port any plans for the intake thats on it now?
