I found a 4.0 Motor with 85k and at a good price. I am going to go pick it up tonight. Anyone near by interested in helping me remove the v8 and drop in the 6? I could use an extra set of hands and I do not know anyone nearby.

this guy i would be there in a heartbeat if it wasnt a 15+hr drive lol, good luck, nice to hear that you found a good motor.

Its gonna depend on when. Im about an hour out. I just have to take any available O.T. at work that I can right now.

I've pulled several motors myself, you can do it easily enough. You do need a good picker though. Dive in and pull the whole front clip off, life is much easier when you only have the frame to deal with and all that room never hurts.

Hedge it will be my first time but that is not the issue. The issue is space the ground outside the garage is steep and unpaved and in order to get the engine of my truck the jeep needs to be moved out the garage. Then somehow turned around on the hill and put in nose first. It doesn't move on its own power. I'm not sure it is a very possible task for one person.

I understand, and would help except for the little problem of being a couple thousand miles away :) .

My drive way is fairly steep, granted it is concrete, but lifting the old engine and struggling up the driveway then back down with the 360 was no fun. then trying to stab the Transmission while keeping the picker from rolling down hill was no fun at all. A helping hand can make a frustrating job simple.

Here is something I found out this time. I usually took the Transmission bolts out from the bottom. This time I noticed that the bolts are easy to get at from the top.

Also, your V8 has some real value. Put her up on Craigslist and she will sell.

The landlord I rent my garage from has a little complex of shops and barns. He told me I could use the upstairs of the barn (in PA alot of barns have a second floor entrance for big equipment) temporarily free of charge. He helped me unload the 4.0 with his tractor and its sitting on a tire in the barn. I just got to wait for a boat that gets stored in there during the winter to be moved out by the end of the month. I have a 5 day drill this weekend so I won't be losing any time.

So far I have ordered:

New clutch
Refurbished head on ebay (275 bucks- it would cost that much just to rebuild the head i already got)
New motor mount bushings
TJ Intake breather
Fancy 4.0 aluminum valve cover
Generic replacement header
Nv3550 to Dana 300 clocking ring and input shaft

Things I still need:
I6 Motor mounts and hardware
Custom clutch linkage (using a pre 91 Clutch MC with a NV3550 slave)
Transmission mount
99 up intake (Junkyard sells them for 25 bucks people on fleabay and craigslist generally want 75 to AMC 150 for them:eek:)
Cherokee harness (If I decide I want to mess around with Cruise control otherwise I have 3 yj harnesses sitting in my parts pile)

Things I will have to get at the end of the project:
Drive shafts
Exhaust

Am I missing anything?

That is such a bummer. All the work you put in and it's a great looking engine. Like the others said, it should sell quickly. I hope the rest of your swap goes smooth.

Thanks I am over it. The 4.0 install is going to be so clean! Just got to get that v8 sold

Now this is the first time I have heard this please explain.

Same flow rate as the OBD1 4.0 injectors but have four spray holes instead of one. It produces better atomization of the fuel molecules. Supposedly improves throttle response and idle but I dont put a lot of stock in internet rumors.

Well if you find that is true please post it because I have a 4.0 in a Cherokee and plan on putting one in my CJ and it sounds like a good upgrade.

Yeah, there are some youtube videos you can watch that show why the 4 hole injectors work better. Now, they are all from companies that sell those injectors, so...

Nice looking work. How did you get the parts clean enough to paint? I've tried everything.

I used simple green diluted in water and spent half my day scrubbing with a tire brush.I probably did about 5 rounds with a simple green scrub followed by a plain water scrub. Then I hit it with dupli color engine enamel in chryco red, the Transmission and accessories brackets I did in duplicolor semi gloss black engine enamel.

I see you didnt need my help anyway. :chug: Nice progress.

It would still be cool if you wanted to come out next weekend and turn some wrenches, tons of little stuff left. But I think I'll be able to get the new drive train in on my lonesome at this point.
