Threaded Inserts

Guys,

Can anyone steer me to a specific product suitable for a fiberglass installation? I have a fiberglass CJ7 , that I install a hard top annually, and this is my third winter. I'd rather not drill directly into the tub with sheet metal screws again. I'm trying to find threaded inserts for the job.

1/4-20 x 9-1/2 Toggler Anchor, Toggle Anchors, Wall Anchors, Fasteners - McFeely's

something like this, should be able to find them at the Depot.

use a 1/4" bolt and stay in place when not in use, good holding, cheep and easily replaceable. not crazy about drilling fiber glass, it splinters too easily.

As always IO has some great Ideas ..............

If you have access to the backside a welded nut plate like pictured works well in a more permanent application...........they come in all sizes & styles & can be either epoxied or fibreglassed onto the inside of the body making a permanent thread.

When I was in the biz of making things from fiberglass, I'd insert t-nuts (Lowes) into small pieces of hardwood (Lowes), then bond them into place with "resin putty"--fiberglass resin with Cabosil mixed into it (marine supply store). This was low-cost, yet provided a strong anchoring point.

Nut plates and tee nuts are great if you're doing some glass work, but just to install a bolt in gel coat, I like the aluminum inserts in fiberglass. The steel inserts require too much force and can blow out the glass when setting.

Menards has riv- nut sets for cheap.
