Clutch TO bearing "play"

Hello,
Changing out clutch on '68 CJ5 with Dauntless Buick 225 V6 V6 and T-14 Transmission . Torn down ok, lots to clean up. PO had oil leak for awhile.
Measured for throw-out bearing. 3, 4 5 times, I'm sure it was correct. Setup adjustable TO bearing to correct measurement. Bellhousing, clutch fork with bearing bolted to block.
Before I lifted the Transmission I noticed TO bearing is pressed up against pressure plate spring. Seems like pressed hard, I can't move it at all.
Is something wrong? Once I stab Transmission up there it will move to correct space or should I take down bellhousing and start again?

Wow! Very thorough post. The one thing I have to say is that your setup has been screwed up from the start and for years.
Since you don't drive or put miles on it was never noticed.
Let's get this corrected.
The throw out bearing should never touch in an idle position.
What clutch are you using?

Crown disc and pressure plate. Novak adjustable TO bearing. Also installing Advanced adapters chain linkage. The old was probably what you referring to above. It was a very original mess.
