I have to say, I do like your girl friend's idea, though....

:agree:Just cover any bare metal to keep it from rusting and keep on Jeeping. It probably won't be the last time you do something like this.

It's not a trail only CJ, I would repair it.
Keep the road/trail CJ's looking good.

I think you should go for the repair work there IO, otherwise there is always replaceable diamond plate aluminum.

That's why mine is rattle can desert tan and black - looks decent cleaned up and if I ding it up on the trail I can easily touch it up.

Wooly

I kinda like the scar with stitches idea. If not fix it , your Cj is clean otherwise.

Although the painting of mine with rustoleum and a roller was suppose to be temporary until I made up my mind on a permanent solution, I've decided to leave it that way for this reason. It's easy to touch back up and with a satin sheen, it blends right in.

Looks like no definite answer from the gang. My vote is to leave the metal work as is but paint to protect from rust. Air brush scar is cool to.

IO, I recently had a similar issue happen. An otherwise large solid looking rock rolled out from underneath me causing my right rear to kiss the side of the trail. The minute I got home the body hammer and dolly came out to at least remove the dent(s) and then rattle canned it as close as possible. I do however kinda like the scar/stitches idea. Maybe airbrush a band-aid too
