Can any of you more knowledgable mechanics POSITIVELY identify this Transfer Case simply from the photograph? I "think" it is a Dana 20 , but if i could be certain without removing the TC, It would be helpful. It is in a Jeep 1975 CJ5 V8, which i "think" is a AMC 304 , and which i "think" has a T-150 Transmission . Thank You very kindly in advance for helping me learn.

You can also log into Novack conversions. They will give you all kinds of info on most of your jeep components. With pictures :)

Got one with I think is a T-150 maybe, laying around if you need it for parts. Someone gave to me and I mistook for a Dana 300 .

Speedo gear will be the give away. Dana 300 is on the left side Dana 20 the right. Also the Dana 300 has an aluminum tail shaft where as the 20 has a cast. Other differences is all enteral

No parts needed - at the moment - but I am thankful for your offer, I may need them later. I am attempting to positively ID the Transfer Case and Transmission , so that I may acquire remanufactured units, without removing what is currently installed - thereby keeping the Jeep running and moving until removal time.

Ok,

Standing, facing the Jeep, the speedo drive is closest to the driver side, or to the right - the side that has no front driveshaft.

Lying under the jeep, with boot soles facing the front bumper, and top of head facing the rear axles, the speedo drive is to my left, or driver side - the side with no front driveshaft.

As per the tailshaft housing, it does not appear to me as aluminum.

If going to the Dana 300 you wouldn’t be wanting the T-150 anyway

This is the Dana 300 . Notice the rounded structure. The left exit for the Speedo gear, and although dirty it's got the aluminum tail shaft.

On a side note anytime you are referring to car parts the left side is always driver's side (us models) it's always referred based on sitting in the driver's seat. Which would be left rather it's a left hand drive vehicle or right hand drive.

Thanks for the picture, and for clarifying the right from left. OK, so if I understand this correctly the Dana 300 speedo cable connection faces the driver side (left), and the Dana 20 speedo cable connection faces the passenger side (Right). The picture you posted of the Dana 300 displays the speedo connection facing the driver side.(Left), Is that correct?

Correct - Passenger side = Dana 20 . You have a Dana 20 with a steel output case. Click ANY orange keyword for more details (We have a custom WIKI.

Look @ these pictures. CLICK THE +16 image.

Maybe saying the right side isn't 100% accurate. However you have a 20. The piece on top is the dead giveaway.

Here is your Transfer Case and a Dana 20 from online

Thanks so much for Identifying my Transfer Case as a Dana 20 steel case. I see the part you circled on the picture that solves the question. Now. the Transmission casting number of # 2603347 and the Dana 20 steel case identity add up. Thank You CJ admin and Manic mechanic for providing a positive solution!
