1979 Jeep CJ7 TH400 Automatic 258 I6 Quadratrac Amc 20 rear & Dana 30 front, 32 x 11.5 x 15 tires. Currently a Complete Custom Rebuild in progress.

Also I own a 2001 Jeep Cherokee, White, all stock with 4.0L. automatic, and police package. Best part of that is it came with leather seats! This package also has the NP242 Transfer Case, 8.25 rear end, and trailer towing package.
I don't really like this setup in my 79 CJ7 . That said anybody else do something different? I'm thinking a separate Transmission support bracket and a separate skid plate. That way the skid plate can be dropped for cleaning etc. without having to support the Transmission . The skid plate could also be a little bigger to protect the Transmission . By the way, my Transmission is a GM Turbo 400 . Any pictures of something different? Rod

I looked at some universal mounts. I think I could bend one myself for a lot less. It is just a simple "U" shape piece of tubing. Rod

Bent some 1.75 dom tube, 1/4" plate, 4 brackets, and poly bushings. Soon to add 1/4" skid plate.

Nice job! That's what I had in mind. Wondering why you decided to put bushings on the end of the dom? I was thinking sold mount there since there is a rubber or poly bushing at the Transmission mount. Rod

Thanks,

Your running an auto Transmission so you should be fine running solid mounts and the rubber Transmission mount. The T-18 comes with a rubber mount and a 1/4" torque bracket. I've owned a number of CJs with the V8/T-18 combo, and most all torque brackets are bent (upwards), even some of the 6/T-18 were bent as well. I thought about making a double sided torque bracket, but I had the poly bushings on hand so I used them to help extend the life of the rubber mount and torque bracket.

Great, Thanks for the information. Rod

Anybody with custom skid plates? :grinjeep: Rod

You're teasing us. I need to see more. 😳

A high steer SOA with headers! And looking at the crossmember I bet the rest is cool.
