Tremec t176/177 wanted

Trying to find a good used or rebuilt T-176 /T177 Transmission . mine is toast. Upon disassembly, it was found to be filled with WATER.
Lance

Hey Lance, I am rebuilding a 1981 CJ7 , it had a T-4 in it that I am swapping out for a T-176 . I had trouble finding one, but was able to get a reman at Midwest Transmission Center. They didn't have it listed on their website, but I called them and they were able to do it for me. Wasn't cheap though.

Why not rebuild the one you've got? Most Transmission places will require your Transmission . as a core. If purchased on line you will have to ship your Transmission to the. Consider that in your purchase price.

:agree:

I would do just that.

Rebuilding it is not an option, as I said in my first post, IT WAS FILLED WITH WATER

Being filled with water isn't always a deal breaker. Many have been saved from this....

IE: RUSTED SOLID.

Totally different story. Had that been in the original post I doubt the rebuild suggestions would have been offered. I'd say at this point you may still have a viable case but that's about it. Even that may be worth cleaning up and selling....

I'm not disputing your assertion that the Transmission is ruined. I did read your first post.

An interesting comment:

Often the parts actually under water are not badly rusted, it's the parts above the water/oil line that rust the most. My T-18a had water in it and this was exactly the case with it. A couple top gears were pitted and the bottom gears were perfect.

If the case is good.. you can ship it to me.. just sayin.

Unfortunately he'll probably need it to cover a core charge.

It's been done before..... I don't know if they really care ..... ahhh except maybe for an SR4 that is...
