I've had good luck with Goodyear Gator-back belts on a noisy ford 5.0.

That's serpentine belt in your picture. 'We' are talk'n about 'V' belts.
OP-Can you post pictures showing you belt layout, etc???

Hedgehog, Yep. There's only one way the brackets go on and, with my gorilla like arms I tend to overtorque things like this (I'm working on it)

The local shop found a rebuilt alternator with the same correct double pulley and they're negotiating to use the pulley from it or swap alternators. Going to find out tomorrow, proabably.

I hear yeah. When I put in my 360 I found all the different bolt lengths, different spacers and multiple threaded holes in the block confusing. Many bolts went in to be removed to another location.

Now it sounds like the pulley might be the wrong pitch for the original style belt. If it were me, I'd find a place that rebuilds alternators and have them fix your original. My last alternator was rebuilt the way "I" wanted and it wasn't any more expensive than a replacement.

Well installed new belts and was surprised by the amount they stretched. Part of the repair I replaced that polished pulley and tightened the belts - didn't have a belt gauge but it's no longer slipping
