V8 Swaps

V8 Swaps
I am not as pure as most on here.
If you want a sbc then put one in if you dont then dont. All listed motors are great, the sbc, you can get parts anywhere anytime.
I have a 350 in my 86 CJ7 , it came to me that way, that is part of the reason I bought it. Power wise, stock there all pretty close if you compair apples to apples.

This is America and until the smog Nazis and greenies make us seize our motors (oh yea, that’s what we had to do during cash for clunkers; we lost a lot of good stuff on that one) do what floats your boat. Doesn’t me I can’t lament the loss.

To a certain degree Saddle Tramp is correct, but also wrong. A lot of the cost of a swap depends on how much of it you can do your self. If you pay someone else it can get costly. But I agree with Razorfish that long term sbc is by far cheaper to maintain and parts are a dime a dozen even for performance stuff, but it is ultimately your final choice as to what you want to run. Good Luck

Yeah...but how many times are you going to break into an engine to replace parts. The $2000 I spent on my 401 for a total rebuild will last me for years.

So true. To maintain an engine you replace what's broke. That's almost always the peripherals: starter, alternator, PS pump. Even if you could get Chevy parts for free how many years would it take to justify the cost of the adapters, wire harness and time needed to make a Chevy work in a jeep?

I cost me around $950 to put the LT1 in my CJ. I made my own motor mounts and the adapter to mate it to my TF727 I got used for $140. I spent $75 getting my radiator modded (switched sides for inlet and outlet). Spent $50 for a contour double fan. Fortunately I just needed to hook up three wires to make it work. $75 to get the ECU reprogrammed. Plus all new hoses, new balancer (mine was toast), and :dung: I can't remember at the moment.

More power and less gas than my AMC 360. With the 360 I was getting around 10 mpg, with the LT1 I am getting 13-15 mpg. Carbs suck. (get it):p

So far, I bought a master rebuild kit for my 350 from Northern Auto Parts for $220 and $10 tomorrow on power washing it.
