First off, to most of us our CJs are priceless but from time to time we do part with them. As the saying goes, value is what a Buyer will pay and a Seller will accept but to me condition and goodies on the jeep govern. Let face it the proper care and feed of a CJ is a labor of love; parts are expensive and you don’t get all that money back when you sell but then not every build floats everyone’s boat either. By goodies I mean ones that I, or in your case another buyer wants. Hacked and whacked, jack up to the moon on 37s hanging a foot outside of the wheel wells is not my idea of a good time, and if it has a SBC stuffed under the hood it’s minus 10 right off the bat. (Again, I submit to all the accolades associated with the SBC as true but don’t care as they belong in a hot rod, not a CJ) In reality a jeep such as I described has virtually no value to me but the next guy might start to drool just reading the advert.
So, how do you determine the value of your CJ? I would start on Craig’s List to see what’s available that compare to what you got. Watch to see which jeeps keep coming back up for sale and which ones seem to have sold, again comparing the condition and goodies between the jeeps that have sold with yours. Armed with that information you should be able to get a good feel for the market in your area then add a little to what you want so you have something to give back; however be prepared for seller’s remorse and heavy tears. (Yes selling your jeep is something that will make grown men cry.)
