Valve adjustment

hey guys. I have a 74 CJ5 with a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l does anyone know the procedure or where i could find the procedure for adjusting the valves? Any input is greatly appreciated.

I dont think there is one. its been awhile but on the AMCs you torque down the rockers and its done

Correct, A.M.C. valves are non adjustable. Just torque to spec, prime the lifters and go.

As stated, there is no valve adjustment on these engines.

Reviving this thread....so there is no valve adjustment on this engine...mine is ticking like mad. Do the valves never go out of adjustment? If they do, how do you correct this? Should I worry about the ticking (it sure sounds like valves or lifters)?

Typically if there is valve tick it's from low oil pressure. Check your oil level, that's a good place to start, and if you need an oil change, do that, then see if there is still a tick.

Thanks - done that. Added a pint of Restore. Oil pressure on the guage seems to read just under 20lbs no matter what the engine speed.

What weight oil?
How many miles on the engine?
Never trust the AMC oil gauge.
Set idle at 850 rpm.

Might be time to at least rebuild the oil pump.
This would be good to have installed.......
