Misc. Vapor Lock

I have a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l straight 6, seems vapor lock is causing some problems keeping a good idle. I'm running the fuel filter that was two exits (one for the Carb and other as vent)... do I need to run the vent hose back to the gas tank?.. or just open to atm?
