vr8000 warn winch , is it enough?

I think that 8000 would be fine. If you need a little more you could always throw on a pulley. I think 8000 will pull a CJ just fine. I am just not a big fan of the VR series. Those are the Chinese built versions. I would go with this one for a little more. I have seen them go for 600 bucks.

:agree: this is the one I have and it works great

8000lb's is plenty. I always recommend double lining however, no matter what the capacity of the winch is. This effectively doubles the pulling capacity of the winch and slows down the pull rate for better control.

One thing to note is this: The advertised pulling capacity of any winch is rated at the drum. A full spooled winch is not pulling the advertised rating. As line is drawn into the winch, the pull capacity diminishes due to increase in spool diameter as cable builds up.

This is also where double lining helps out.....more cable drawn out increases the pulling capacity. ;)

Jim is correct, and I think IIRC, they say at least 1.5 times the vehicle wt. when choosing a winch. An 8k should be fine for any Jeep.

8000 lb. should be good, but as diddy said I'd spend a little extra for the better model.

Another thing you should have for a sometimes used winch is a heavy duty battery. For heavy duty use a dual battery setup is required. If you check the amp draw on the winch specs you will find that it can drain a standard duty battery in no time, when you are using that thing keep an eye on the voltmeter. If you don't use it that much, reel out about 20 ft. or so every now and then and spool it back in to keep the seals lubricated. When you first set it up the cable needs to be drawn tight on the drum, this is done by running your cable out to the last set of coils, hooking it on to a fixed object then reel it back in with a moderate load like your Jeep with the e-brake lightly set. Winching with a loosely wound spool can be a mess when the cable tightens up.

Thanks for the replys , I'll go with the M8000 .

Nice man! Congrats. A nice feature about the remote solenoid unit is that you can mount it somewhere other than right on top of the winch. I have seen guys, with that same winch, mount the solenoid under the hood to protect it from the elements. Makes for a clean install. I actually just bought a X8000I. Its used, and not the newest thing, but similar to what you are getting. Mine is the integrated model. I think you will be very happy with the M8000.
