Hello all,

I’ve got a 1976 Jeep CJ7 with the factory narrow trac Dana 30 front axle and AMC20 rear axle. I want to run disc brakes, and the consensus is that a person would need to get either aftermarket wheels or later CJ wheels to run disc brakes, as the early factory wheels were too skinny and did not have the clearance for them. So, I did some research. I believe that I read somewhere that you cannot run the later CJ wheels with the holes drilled for center caps on an earlier CJ7 with a narrow trac. The wheels I’m looking at are 15x7 Laredo wheels (I believe they’re date stamped 1983) with the holes drilled for center caps. Is the information I found incorrect? Are there any issues that I would run into?

Thanks.

Well I did not do all that research and I'm not going back downstairs tonight to check my wheel size. But I have a 79 with wheel spacers on all four corners. I swapped over to Moser one piece axles and a TSM brake package and no issues. Check the build forum for "3rd time down the rabbit hole" for pictures.

I was considering spacers as well. Since I already have a set of five of the original aluminum mag wheels from a ‘76 Renegade , I thought that would be the way to go. People were saying that they were a drum brake wheel, but one would think that a wheel spacer would provide the necessary room.
