Warn 8274 mount with Warn part 11310 / winch mounting questions

I'm looking for a winch plate for my 81 CJ7 to mount a foot-forward Warn 8274 that I restored. Quadratec shows a picture of the 11310 that looks like it fits a foot forward mount:

But Amazon's picture for the same part number shows a foot-down mount, but is much cheaper:

Are there two different styles for this same part number or does Amazon just have the wrong photo? My other question was will I need to drill holes in my frame with this mount? I can't find any good photos of the plate to see how it attaches.

That one on Amazon just doesn't look right. Looking at the Warn page:

That also does not provide good info on putting the 8274 on a CJ but does mention it. You might want to contact Warn directly for correct info. I mounted the Warn hs9500i using a Warn mount and It mounts to 4 large 7/8" holes(I think) on the frame. I will mention that there is some special hardware in the kit for mounting to the boxed CJ frame that I thought was poorly designed so I made my own spacers that fit correctly. Hopefully that issue has been corrected in the kit you purchase.

I noticed the only holes in the top of my frame are the two that hold the bumper on, I figured there has to be something more than that, whether it's bracers or a drill job I don't know. I'll call Warn on Monday but was just hoping I could get the jump on it with you guys and put an order in

Those holes that are used for the winch mounting are on the sides of the frame. If you look at those mounting kits you will notice a top plate where the winch mounts that will bolt on to two sideplates which attach to the frame just above the spring shackle bracket. I would hope that Warn will answer all your questions.

To follow up, that was the right part. Took a little bit of extra work to get it attached with the factory bumper. I had to grind out recessions in the bumper where the forward-most bolts go through to get them to clear, otherwise the bumper would not have gone on. I also had to ream out the holes in the frame to get the spacers to fit. I tried like hell to get them in there without doing it but no luck.

Thanks for the update, although I am not really clear on how the oem bumper is part of the mounting system. Since the bumper mounting holes on the frame are quite weak to withstand much of a pulling force. Those frame spacers are a critical part of the mount, hopefully you will be able to get them to fit.

I'll try to take some when I get home. To clarify, the front bumper is not part of the mount but I had to remove some material from it or else the mount would rest on it instead of the frame. To mount the top portion of the winch plate there are lag bolts that stick up from the bottom. The round bolt ends would not allow the bumper to go back fully onto the frame.

If I am not mistaken, those are not lag bolts but carraige bolts with the square locating bases on them, I don't mean to get too technical btw. Anyway, I did not like them as they were only of a grade 2 hardness and I converted them to a hex head grade 8 as I didn't want the winch to depart the Jeep. I also added a tow hook to the mount also. I know my mount is different than yours, but this is how it is set up:

Ha! Yeah, sorry for my mistake... Carriage bolts w/ round/domed heads. I was disappointed the WARN mount didn't have the two close holes up front for my tow hooks that were on there before the winch. Did you have to just drill through the whole thing or did your winch mount come with those two front holes? The winch plate is supposedly specifically for the CJ7 , I would have thought they would have had the frame holes pre-drilled.

Yeah, I did drill clearance holes for the 1/2" bolts used on the hook, plus had to make clearance for stuff hooked to it. As I recall, I shaved a bit off the large heads of those bolts so everything would fit correctly. The added hook does help as sometimes a strap is easier to use in some situations, plus when using a snatch block.

I didn't have to make any mods to get mine to work. This Winch has been on 3 Jeeps, 2 CJs and a TJ.

Is your bumper bolted in at the top? No way mine would have cleared.
