I've got a 1981 AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l CID with a weber 2bbl carb. The carb runs rich, adjust it,and it runs very rough. It's got a fuel pressure gauge, the carb was vatted and just re-built. Is this carb worth going crazy over or should I replace it? All suggestions are welcomed.

My jeep came with a Weber 34 which was a piece of :dung:. It ran really rich, I re-jetted it about 1000 times and finally gave up, getting a Weber 38dges. The Jeep now runs a lot better with a lot more power, but still runs rich and it had to get sent back to Weber for a faulty choke unit and linkage. I'd recommend getting a new carb that is not a weber, I wish I could get my $300 back for the 38 and go with something from another company.

You need to run a regulator on webers

With both webers I had a new fuel pump, regulator at 3.5, and all appropriate fuel connections.

I read on the web someone had to run 5.5 on the regulator. Might try that. Don't know haven't owned or workded on one.:)

If your carb was just rebuilt, the float level could be incorrectly set allowing excessive fuel into the engine.

I believe the 34 is a single barrel carb and was a bear to get adjusted. The AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l uses the 32/36 and work well in most cases. The 38 being the choice if you have any engine mods. done. There are Weber knock-offs out there that aren't genuine Weber's and don't work well. I got the 32 but it's still in the box yet, as I'm not to that stage of my build yet.

My .02 is weber's make great targets I never could get it right so I put a 2150 on and she runs Great.

What model is it badger? Does it make any difference running if the engine is warm or not? Do you have your charcoal canister / all vacuum lines connected?
