Near the end of last summer I picked up a pretty nice ‘76 CJ5 . 50k original miles! But there’s a problem... for those who are old enough to remember, it looks identical to “Mindy’s Jeep” from the TV show Mork & Mindy.
Quit laughing! Anyway the paint isn’t bad, just can’t handle the color.
So... what color do I paint it?

Cant say the color it is looks bad, but I wouldnt have chosen it. Upside, its not pink. My choice would be earthtones (brown/tans), but then again, I dont like mine to stand out.

I'd paint it right side up...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

That was the toughest decision I had during the whole build. Drove me nuts. When you have every color to choose from the choices are overwhelming.

I'm partial to light brown. If you don't wash your jeep every time it gets dusty, like me, The dust doesn't show as much.

I like dark green and blue, when I changed the color on my truck from brown I chose blue

Back in ‘75 my friend bought a new CJ5 Renegade that was dark green... like forest green, with black stripes & top. It looked really good. I mightgo with that. Thanks!

I ran across a dude a couple years ago with a real nice CJ5 . He had just gotten out of the army, bought the Jeep, and said he couldn't decide on a color. Finally, the paint color matched to a new ammo can. Was a very unique color - have never seen it on a vehicle since.........

The military-ish colors are popular right now. I’ve seen several new trucks with the desert-coyote-tan whatever color. And different shades of olive green. I like it. The problem with color changes for Jeeps, maybe a little more so than other vehicles, is the whole inside shows. So do you paint the whole thing? Or have a two tone Jeep? That’s a big job.

I like white-

One of the huge advantages to painting Jeeps is that they come apart quick & easy. I’ll strip it down to the frame & do it right. The dash is hacked up so I’ll be replacing that and new wiring. With everything gone, it will be super easy to hide 100% of the factory color. New hardware, rubber & wires makes a huge difference.
