Body What holds the windshield?

I recently bought this '66 CJ5 . I'm trying to understand how the windshield folds down. Attached are photos of the hood and the windshield. There is a latch at the top center of the windshield that looks like it should hook onto a footman loop on the hood. The two U bolts on the hood are not in line with the latch and the footman loop is not in the right place either. Does anyone know if this latch is meant to line up with something on the hood? If not, what holds the windshield when it's down? Thanks!

It appears that someone has attached their own method of how the window rests on the hood when down. The only thing that I am familiar with is when the window is folded down, it rests on the two tallest loops on the hood. The footman in the middle is usually for running a woven strap through that is attached to the window frame above the rear view mirror. I don't believe any of the items currently on the top of your frame, came from the factory or belong there.

It's a fairly simple set up. Fold down the window and strap it to the footman. no fuss, no muss, as tight as you pull it the more secure it is. I never had to really wrench it down, though, it works very well

Drove with mine down once. I guess I’m just a windshield type of guy. Didn’t do anything for me. Also seemed like it was also a lot of weight on the hood.

This is a M38A1 windshield. Look that its have a pair of bumpers surrounding the wiper axis, but your Jeep have the stock bumpers for the correct windshield at the hood... also, you have the military style hings, that allow to pull out the windshield at 45º position...
This hook at the frame, is not to hold the windshield donw, but to hold the hood up... The M38A1 hood have a loopman who gets hooked on that device on the windshield. To hold the windshield down you must use the strap at inside.
