I just got a CJ7 , learning as I go, I drive an XJ and know a good bit about those, anyone got a picture of what the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l should look like and or suggestions to what I should do to it? Thanks! this is it now, notice there is a clothes hanger as a part of the throttle cable lol. Also, i had the original breather took off for the photo.....

Getting what you have to run right is a start, like an air cleaner to begin with.

she runs! i do need a new pcv grommet and probably kit lol the PO had it running inside something else, it was weird plus its crumbling, to NAPA tomorrow hopefully!

Here is my stock 78 after restore and prior to modifying. ;)

Interesting, from those pics I do not see coolant lines running thru the intake manifold. I once disconnected my coolant lines thru the intake manifold and the engine ran like :dung:.

This picture is of my 1978 engine, six years and countless modifications ago. It seams that your previous owner removed parts of your smog system. If you see on this pic, I've labeled some of the smog stuff, you are missing the diaphragm assembly and the air pump itself, but you still have the copper tubes ran to the exhaust ports. That's not helping your engine to run any better.

The coolant lines that torxhead is referring to are for 1981 and newer AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l L6, the 1980 and older AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l /AMC 232 i6 L6's dont have the coolant runing through the intake manifold. The '80 and older intake and exhaust manifolds bolt together, were the newerr ones don't.

If you're looking for a stock single barrel air filter assembly, I'm pretty sure I've got one sitting in the garage

If your refering to mine it did not have them, it is the ca. AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l with the carter yf.

Well I never got mine to run good untill I did the mopar system.

could look like this. HEI, TBI, 4.0 head, and some paint!

After looking back and remembered my engine leaking oil really bad. As mentioned already, pressure washing will help tremendously. I would have bet money I had a leaky valve cover. After some engine brite and pressure washing I discovered the dipstick leaking. RTV silcone has been holding now for sometime. After the local mopar dealer telling me goodluck on finding a dipstick, I told him well....
