ive found sets of Golden Eagle rims for about 600.00 so theyre kinda hard to come by and expensive.

To bill92250, Oh I found the paint. It is just very expensive. Plus any GE rim you find will probably need painted since it will be around 30yrs old.

To GoldenEagle36, ProComp Series 82 is the exact same wagon wheel style as the 78 (even comes in a 16.5in size). I forget the price but I don’t think 4 wheels will cost you $600. The only problem is they come in white so they will need painted too.

To all, Looks like I can paint the oil over the enamel spray but not the other way around (paint bubbles) so I will not be giving the wheels a top coat of the special mix spray can however, the color is the same when I tested both on a sacrificial piece. BTW, the gold looks more like baby food color

I've seen used sets of Original Golden Eagle wheels for 600.00 you're better off finding old wagon wheels blasting them and painting them

Did you repaint your wheels and what gold color did you use?

The one with the tracker is an original 79 wheel, the one with the KM2 is a repaint. I got the original one shot with a camera to get all the colors out and then my aunt who works a a Chevy garage used PPG paint to paint them.

Do you know if they used a PPG paint with code or had some machine that could sample the existing (and possibly faded) color from the 79 wheel and reproduce it?

the took a picture of the old rim with a speial camera that brought out all the colors that are supposed to be mixed in. i have the whole sticker of how they made the paint

Hi I am about to sand blast my golden wheels here in Ireland. I noticed that the backs of the wheels are white with a little bit of gold. Were the Golden Eagle wheels gold painted on white primer or do I just have a set of wheels that were originally white that someone tried to make golden eagles wheels out of.

Also to the last person who pasted that got the paint done with a camera, what was the official paint combination code so that I can order it without the use of a camera.

thanks
Ken

The backs or mine are also white, but I can't tell you definately that's how they came from the factory.

look up the AMC color Corsica Gold... ive heard its the closest color you can get

No don't get the Corsica Gold. I ordered it and it was not close. I posted that in #16 above. The gold color that matched my 1978 gold wheels was 72R35 or PPG/Ditzer 23681. It is listed on the 1978 PPG American Motors color samples sheet. The gold was listed for “STRIPPING COLORS”.

I was able to purchase 1 spray can for ~$40 ($27.95 paint, $13.48 shipping) from CarPaintonline.com.

I posted that info in #17 and pasted the 1978 AMC PPG Color chit in post #25.
