EDIT:

Did some quick internet digging and found this

from the factory parts manual

Road wheels- Golden Eagle - Gold - (72-R-61)
Ditzler Code 23674

Now, for a little more digging to cross reference those paint codes...

i have typed every number for that code in there and i have had no luck in finding a place that carries the paint chip or for a cross reference. :(

That really sucks. I apologize, I did forget about this and never did any digging myself.

I don't know if I should just go get a picture taken with a special camera and get the colors matched or try to find a website that stocks the paint... I'll just have to see thank you ellwood blues for all the help man I greatly appreciate it:)

Hey man, you're welcome. I'm interested in this too. There may come a time where I need that paint too.

After some digging I found that Distler became PPG sometime in the late '60's or early 70's. I'm still working on cross referencing the old Distler numbers to PPG numbers.

Man, this is turning in to quite the wild goose chase. I'm thinking that the best bet would be to find a local PPG or Dupont automotive paint place and see if they're able to cross reference the Distler number. I'm headed to be for tonight, I'll see what I come up with tomorrow :chug:

Thanks man it will probably be about 2 months before i paint them up. tell me if you need any help im more than happy to hook you up:chug:

Hey I've got a lead on that color. I dropped a couple of emails to online paint places, I heard back from one today, here's the email chain:

Hello

Thanks for the inquiry. That number is still a good number. Are you
looking to purchase that in PPG?

Thanks

I'm looking to cross reference a Distler paint code; 23674. It's the
gold color for Jeep Golden Eagle edition wheels. I also have the
manufacturerers number, it is 72-R-61, Road wheels- Golden Eagle - Gold.
I appreciate any and all information you could give me. Thank you.

Here's a link to thier website, http://www.tcpglobal.com/. I did some digging on thier site, but I never came up with anything. I think I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what prices and availability is!

Elwood, your doing a great job man ill help as much as i can, i dig every time i can dig. BTW how did you paint yours?

Not sure if anyone is still following this thread/post but Paintscratch.com has Golden Eagle wheel paint. The DITZLER/PPG CODE 23674 is “Corsican Gold Poly” P-41 which was available on all 1962 AMC vehicles.

Well I painted a spare set of late 70s Jeep rims and the paint does not mach my 1978 wheels.

I read over this thread again and elwood blues posted,

“from the factory parts manual

1979 model year:
Road wheels- Golden Eagle - Gold - (72-R-61)
Ditzler Code 23674”

The key thing I did not think of was Jeep started offering different colors in 78 and 79.

I read through my copy of the 1978 shop manual but I don’t remember them listing wheel colors.

Looks like I'll keep searching.

Once again, I am not sure if anyone is still following this but I found the original paint color codes used for the early 1977,78 Golden Eagle Jeeps. I am not sure if the gold wheels where only for the bodies painted with AMC Golden Oak (7E) or the gold wheels where used for all years the Golden Eagle package was used.

Even though the GE was first produced (with a Limited edition sticker) in 1977, you can find the gold wheel color code (72R35 or PPG/Ditzer 23681) on the 1978 PPG American Motors color samples sheet. The gold was the same color listed for “STRIPPING COLORS”.

I was able to purchase 1 spray can for ~$40 ($27.95 paint, $13.48 shipping) from CarPaintonline.com.

Pretty expensive for 1, 12oz can but now I can spray my own chip and resample the color at any hardware store.

 Still following, pics would be good. Sooner or later (probably later) I'm planning on repainting my wheels as well.

I made a paint chip and sampled it at Lowes in an exterior oil base. I dabbed that onto my older (and more beat up) Jeep rims. Once I finish hand painting, I will lightly sand (~800 grit) and then use the spray can sparingly.

So far, the color looks the same as the pics on page 1 of this post while my original rims (34yrs old) have faded more into a yellow color. I plan to paint the black stripe and then cover it in clear coat.

I will post pics of the new painted rims against my original set when it stops raining.

Too funny, I was just looking for the same information. Some idgimit painted one of mine camo. I'm not terribly fond of the color, but it is original.... I bet it would be easier to find a rim than to find paint.
