What to look for in a CJ

Would not recommend 5 Spd, engine lugs down on even slightest highway grade. I usually cruise in 4th though I have the T-5 . Original carb not good, Weber better, fuel injection best. Original distributor adequate but weak; HEI better. Would not recommend electric fan, didn't work so well in my 86 CJ7 .

Now the moment we have all been waiting for, pics of the new rig.



















This is what 4800.00 got me. Still looking for gremlins to pop up but so far nothing that needs immediate attention. Pulled the carpet expecting the worse but the floors are actually rust free. There is some rock damage to work on but nothing serious.

I think you got a good deal. Looks real good wish mine look that nice but mine was a $900 basket case.

I am also looking for a jeep. I want a cj5, first choice..cj7 second choice. Not sure why; I just grew up wanting the cj5.

I would buy a jeep from anyplace in america, as long as it would be able to be driven home to south louisiana at a minimum of 50 mph.. I got the rover in chicago and it drove here with no problem..

I will post some more beginner questions.

I wish you lived around me. I'm gonna sell mine real nice CJ5 (which i personally think is the best jeep ever) and would like it to go to someone like the CJ forum guys. But I won't even try to tempt you. Trust me, you don't want to drive any 35 year old CJ to South Louisiana from South Florida. Although I trust my Jeep and take it on 2-3 hour trips from time to time, that's just tempting the gods too much.
