75 Jeep CJ5, 4.2L Straight 6, Dana 44 & 30? T30 TC? 3 Speed,
So I'm a machinist and work for a nice size shop and can setup and run vertical and horizontal milling centers, I am currently working on my suspension lift and will be making my new shackles Tuesday for my 75 CJ5 .

As I was just sitting here I was curious on what parts I could draw and program up to make for my jeep. Anyone have any suggestions? ;)
Or has anyone ever made anything for there Jeep?

make rock sliders.

Or maybe a Transmission mount

I can think of lots of things to do with a CNC plasma cutter or even a CNC torch but I can't think of anything right off to do with a mill/lathe.

I have an idea floating around for a hand press to change U-Joints on the trail, I hate changing u-joints with a hammer.

was a machist/welder in the Air Force. Where do I start? I miss havig axcess to all that

since there isn't to much left that is stock on my cj, I've had to make all kind of mounts, brackets, adapters and tools to make things work.
I also made my fairlead, tie rod, draglink, sliders junk like that.
Just make what you need.

Last thing I made for my jeep EGR delete. That I milled out. Lot of stuff can be made with a cutting torch, grinder, and arc welder. Dad's been fabing like that for years.

Lol, thanks guys I guess I am going to learn to use a welder and cutting torch. Well I guess I need to take her out get her dirty and see what needs to be changed of course after the kit gets put on.

Thanks :chug:

Here is a fun one.....

A welder and some paint. The logo I had laying round. It is a BTF DIY diff cover. About $75 shipped. Way less than a ARB and you can say you "made" it

Wow! I could only wish to have those in my garage lol, I am looking at a manual lathe for it right now, I have access to all the manuals but unfortunatly not nearly as skilled as the older generation on them as there no nearly as skilled on the cnc as the younger generation is lol....but I am for sure trying to take advantage of it all.

Have any ideas let me know. :chug:

btw: this is my first 4x4 and vehicle that I have ever takin apart so any thing mechanically being done is a first for me.

guess i'm the older generation (at 40), as I prefer turning a feed wheel to typing on keys. I've got a bridgeport clone, but wish I had a digital readout on it. I also have a LeBlond lathe. But i've using the mill more.

Takes a lot of skill not to take a finger off or at least common sense lol I'm just so use to making up my own program under mastercam and adjusting the machine to do what I want it to through controls lol. The shackles i'm making i'm making it on a 50 taper kitamira 7x so it should be a breeze.

I went to school for machinist 20 years ago, cnc was a very small part of it. I always enjoyed manual machining, and job shop work. I keep pen and paper and calculator near by. I plan to make shackle too, but I will set my mill with a stop to recreate repeatable work.

and all I have to do is keep a program lol anyways here are some good prints I found from another site for shackles I bought some 1/4" flat steel for $8.00 and will be making the 1/2" ones on Tuesday. I also made a plate out of acrylic to put on my firewall for my wires to come through on the laser here it is.

And soon will be making a new dash on a water jet but then again that is after I find everything that is wrong with my suspenion kit as i'm putting my new one on lol. AHH

I had the same problem last night. Thats a good looking dash plate. I appreciate the dimensions for the shackles too.
