What year is this prop valve

Hello all,

Ok, a little background here. My Jeep seems to be a mix of 75 and 76 parts and is primarily used for trail riding and rare (and i do mean rare) road use. A couple of years ago I installed a "new to me" front axle with disc brakes replacing the drums. After the install, I took it to a shop for proper brake maintenance. I was told my proportioning valve needs to be replaced by the brake shop, but they couldn't find the part. Could someone tell me the year of this prop valve? Is it off of a pre-76 or post?

Also, how do I know IF it even needs to be replaced?

That looks like the same one I have and my jeep is a 75.

I could be wrong but I am pretty sure you need to change your proportioning valve when you switch to disk brakes. Your brake pads on your disks are pretty much always in contact with your rotors so it takes less pressure for them to start engaging than it does for your drums. This can make for unsafe conditions with hard braking at higher speeds. The proper proportioning valve for you will not let the front brakes engage before the rear.
I believe disk brakes where an option in 76 so I would think you could just get one from then and bolt it up.

It is possible that I am wrong here. I have owned a jeep for less than a week.

That is an excellent point. I will look into that a bit more. Thanks for the input. At least I now know my prop valve is off a 75. Many thanks!

Not similar to what was on my 76 CJ5 . I don't have a pic of the actual prop valve. However, the valve itself was attached to a plate of steel, that was attached to a bracket welded to the frame:



Note the bracket welded to the frame about the new prop valve.

I see....The valve in that pic looks identical to one I almost bought yesterday. I'm sure it will work. Thanks for the input.
