I have a fully restored Navy Blue 1980 CJ7 but I kinda want the wheels and tires to set slightly wider than normal. I like the wheel base of the wrangler but I dont really need them that wide. So what size wheel spacers should I buy?

I have 33inch bfgoodrich on my jeep right now...

I would not recommend wheel spacers for anyone.

I'm the same way...

No wheel spacers... They can be a huge liability.

The best way to achieve that offset are new wheels... :)

What exactly are you looking to achieve? :)

I have a set of Spidertax 1 1/4" wheel spacers on my XJ. If you're going to buy a set, spend the money and get the best ones out there.

I had never seen those quality spacers before... I may have to rethink my answer...

It still places an enormous amount of pressure on the wheel studs though! Don't you have to run very short studs on the axle side?

No, you don't have to. I have the stock studs on all four corners. The spacers are thick enough, and the nut holes are deep enough, that they slide right on. Heck spidertax even sends you Loctite 272 (it's the red kind) with the kit.

BTW, these don't put any more pressure on the wheel studs, they are hub centered. Unlike most aftermarket wheels.

And that is why they are a properly engineered, quality product... Nice find! :)

Much better then the typical cheap 'auto :dung: universal fits all junk'!!!

It's not the studs I worry about, It's simply the bearing stress added by the offset. I fully agree that if you want a little wider stance, go to an off set wheel.

Absolutely right CJ. I can't take much credit for the find though, the first time I had heard of them was on extreme4x4 one Saturday morning.

But - If the wheel is offset or the hub? Isn't the same thing accomplished... The center of the wheel is still the same distance from the hub -

One offset by a spacer and one offset by the backspacing...

Devil advocate here! :)

I don't think so. The center of mass is still bolted in a more direct line with the bearing surface, and not moved out like a fulcrum. I doubt I'm splainin that very well...

This is one arguement, that I'm staying out of, exspecially with the engineer bangtard.png

LOL

I fail to see the difference...

1) Offset mechanically via a wheel spacer...

1) Offset via a extruded wheel.

Both accomplish the same goal - the center of wheel as measures the same distance from the spindle bearing... :)

Now I see the problem. You're educated far beyond your intelligence! :D
No wonder you cn't get those blades finished!!! You want me to come down there and fix them for you?

It's time for a sketch...

You know I'm correct... You just cannot allow your self to believe it!!! :)

BAH! I reject your reality, and substitute it with my own!

Hey wait a minute, you stole that from the red headed guy on mythbusters :D

It still fits!:D

I had a truck with wheels that stuck way out once. Ate wheelbearings for breakfast. I have to agree with CJ on this one.
