When a Jeep passes you on the road.

When a Jeep passes you on the road.
I know from years of riding motorcycles and working at bike dealers most Harley guys only want to know the import crowd when there is a petition to sign. But I do agree with most, the newer jeep crowd is all chrome and no go. They don't understand and never will. Since I've had my 78 CJ5 other jeep guys will see me stop and talk. The newer model crowd won't even look twice at me.

I totally agree. And yet they get offended when you point that out to them. They truly don't understand.
And your right, I don't have anything else against them. They are just anOTHER 4x4 like the landcruiser, hummer, bronco, etc., that can go great with the right mods. I just don't believe they have the right to wear the Jeep badge. Chrysler bought the trademark for notoriety that had long been established and has since exploited it.

 I might be showing my age here but...I remember saying something like "well jeep is dead now" in 1970 when AMC bought them.:D

i dont wave to jeeps because mine has never been out of the garage since ive owned it:(

Honestly, I live in Phoenix and I am to busy watching for idiots trying to scuff my Heep to wave. It isn't personal but CJ's can be a handful at times. So I will wave to you all now in hopes that see it.

Your CJ is a handfull? :). It shouldn't be that way... My 5 (before my tear down and rebuild) was a one handed driver, even a highway speeds... :)

I sometimes forget and wave at other Jeeps even when I'm not in my Jeep, my wife thinks I'm nuts and they probably do too .

I wave to any CJ's and newer ones that are at least lifted or look used. I figure if the are lifted they probably off road and know to wave. I don't usually wave at women though. But most of those are the new 4 door mall crawlers. :D

Not so much the jeep but the bias ply tires following cracks in the road.

I get a lot of waves on the trail - I usually don't wave back, I just head over with the towstrap.

On the road it's mainly the modified late models, YJs and all CJs that wave back.

Ditto on the sport riders waving back to my old cafe racer.

How did you come up with the 98.7% :D

I'd love to tell you that I keep a pencil and tally sheet in the 8 to keep track, but it's a Rush Limbaugh inspired reference ;)

Most jeepers around here will wave even the new 4 doors, and it seems that if I pull into a gas station to fill up. I get a lot of looks and a few come over to check the jeepy out, as my kids call it. As for my wife when we drive with the top off and the lady's wave at us she just rolls her eyes and says it's the jeep. And I tell her no its the whole package.:D Then she just shakes her head and looks out her side of the jeep!:chug:

I try to tell my wife that and I get that the same response. Do they know each other?

Well, I do keep a pencil and paper handy.... Just in case ;)

I have noticed

if a CJ is coming and I am in a CJ, 95% of the time I get a wave
IF I am in a TJ or JK and a CJ is coming on the wave I get is if the Jeep is built or not but average about 80%

If a TJ, YJ, OR JK is coming down the road and I am in any Jeep but a CJ, I get a wave rarely.

You are! But that's not a bad thing.:D
I've heard that said before too, but the difference to me is (and the same when Kaiser bought Willy's) is that the company and Jeep line continued, just ownership on paper changed hands. With AMC / Chrysler though it's different. AMC choose to end their JEEP vehicle line. Chrysler then said hey, we want to by the rights to that trademark JEEP name since your not going to be using it anymore. AMC continued on as a company and so did Chrysler. A year later when AMC was still going down the tubes, Chrysler offered to buy their whole company, and did. This provided them with a ton of leftover parts and the plant that used to produce Jeeps.
So to me theres a definite break in the AMC and previously produced Jeep product; and Chryslers new 4x4 product with a Jeep sticker on it, even though most of the "yj" was an AMC concept design from years earlier. Today the 7 grill slots are the only remaining ties to this great American icon.

I just see them for what they are. A Chrysler 4wd product with a Jeep sticker on them. And Chrysler had no hand in achieving the popularity or notoriety of the Jeep name or the iconic vehicle it was for 45 years. They only exploited the name. And thats the huddle I've never been able to get over. But I don't dislike the new Wranglers. I dislike the new generation and the unknowing thinking these are truly Jeeps.

Nicely stated

I like driving with the top down in the summer, I wave at everyobdy, driving or not:D

Now don't get me wrong, I love cj's, especially CJ5 's, I have 3, but I also have a yj and I love it also.
And for those of you who were too young to recall, Jeep would have gone out of business had not Chrysler breathed some life back into the company. Jeep was constantly trying make the cj more pleasing to the general public. Thus the Tuxedo Park park and then the CJ7 (OMG,with a hard top:eek:)
The Cherokee is one of the "ten best cars of all time".
The YJ Wranger was a answer to jeepers prayers for many years.
I'd be willing to bet that a stock 2012 wrangler would out-wheel a stock 70's cj

Blasphemy I say

I have owned a JK and a TJ and will say that the Jeep line is alive and well
our universal platform is as capable today as it ever was under Willeys.
Take a stock CJ out with a stock TJ or JK and you will be impressed with all 3. I know we all love the old Junk, but the new stuff is tough and is worthy of the name.
I would build a TJ any day as a solid trail Jeep and actually feel just fine taking it places I will no longer take my CJs, you see it is easier to find parts for that TJ, my CJs are getting harder and harder to find parts for.

Not too young here. I've drove my Jeep for 30 years now and drooled over them for several before that. The Jeep branch of AMC DID go out of business in 1986. They sold the trademark name. A year later AMC was bought out by chrysler. AMC was not breathed back to life, chrysler absorbed them and created their Jeep / Eagle division, dropping most of AMC's vehicles.

Jeep was constantly trying make the cj more pleasing to the general public. Thus the Tuxedo Park park and then the CJ7 (OMG,with a hard top:eek:)

Yes but in slight creature comforts and aesthetics, not by changing the shape and engineering. The Jeep remained nearly unchanged for 40+ years. They made the major changes and tech. advances to the wagoneers and cherokee's, not to the CJ, which is the original holder of the term "Jeep".

The YJ Wranger was a answer to jeepers prayers for many years.
I'd be willing to bet that a stock 2012 wrangler would out-wheel a stock 70's cj
Then why were so many "jeepers" upset in 83 & 86 when the CJ's were stopped being produced? Why did so many dislike the wrangler when it came out? And why is there still to this day the animosity and differentiation between the Jeep CJ camp and the Chrysler wrangler camp? Heck we're on a Jeep CJ specific website. Today's wrangler has much more in common with a hummer than it does a Jeep.

Look, I'm not looking to start any hard feelings or descent among the ranks here. I just hate to see history blurred and the legacy of the Jeep CJ distorted so some multi billion dollar company can make some more money.
I'm not trying to knock wranglers, I just want the Jeep CJ put back up on the iconic pedestal where it belongs.
