I have a cabin in the mountains with lots of off road potential. I was thinking of getting a run-around and off roader. I'd prefer to get something that's been beefed up to replace some of the cheepo stuff that gave the CJs a less than stellar reputation.

Is there a good book to start with that gives the strait poop on model and year selection.

Is there a best year? I was told 76 to 86.

Is there a best progression of upgrades?

Thanks

Sorry if that offends. I recall a buddy getting a new cj in 81 or 82 and having stock parts break and fail pretty often and having to upgrade to make it hold up in moderate off road conditions. The same can be said for most (if not all) consumer cars.
