77 Jeep CJ5 - Renegade - 304 w/3 spd - pretty stock at the moment.
Not sure where this question would go...but I am restoring a 77 CJ5 and would like to go with factory white wagon wheels...problem is they are hard to find in any shape at all or they are very expensive. There are quite a few makers of white wagon wheels but all that I see have the sharp cut edges on the spokes...not like the rounded edges on the old original wagon wheels. Does anyone out there know of a manufacturer that makes a white wagon wheel that comes close to replicating those old steel wheels? You can find black ones with 10 spokes (rather than the 8) with the rounded edges...which I've considered buying and powder coating white...might be interesting...but may be costly too. But would like to keep pretty factory looking if there is anything out there. thanks all.

I found mine by placing a wanted post on CL and to complete the set called JW auto wrecking (sp?) for the 5th.

Thanks guys...i haven't posted a want add on cl yet...but have been watching cl like crazy and haven't seen anything near me. I'm going to have to do something pretty soon so may end up going with some aftermarket wheels...they just don't have the same soft edge that the original wheels had. You would think that there would be someone out there that makes them...everything out there with soft edges now are black. thanks again...

Nothing else looks like the factory wheels to me. I say a chrome set a few weeks back on cl. The chrome are 15 x 7 and the white wheels are 8's at least in my case and have 3.75" backspace FYI.

I agree...alot may look similar from a distance but there is a definite difference and quality. Just to keep somewhat retro look of original but do something a little different...I am thinking about buying some of those 10 spoke black wheels and having them powder coated gloss white. Talked to a guy today and he said he do them for $25/wheel. Those black 10 spokes I have seen have more of the rounded off spoke edges like the OEM wheels ...unlike most all white 8 spokes you see today. Just me...but the rounded/softer edges just look nicer. thanks again for the info...

I have a set of 5 if you want them. Definitely need sand blast and powder coat. Not sure what price you are seeing. Send me a PM and make offer.

I don't mean to add on here with something different...but i see you guys mention 3.75 offset...(for example)? what does that mean?

i know it has something to do with the center of the mounting point on the rim to the axle, but for a beginner what would i need to look for?

whats good, bad on that point for rims.

These guys can probably help you more...but from what I understand 3.75 is what stock rims are on cjs. The way I understand it is if you laid something flat across the backside of the rim then measured from that point down to your lug holes...that is the offset. The higher the measurement, the further inside the wheel will set on the vehicle...the lower the number the more your wheels will stick out. Guys please chime in and correct me if I'm wrong...that's just what I've picked up while researching wheels over the past week.

You are correct sir!

so if you were running larger tires, you would want a smaller offset? so they wouldn't rub? am i on the right track of thinking

I know this is an old thread, but was seeing what others did with white wagon wheels.

I ended up doing a couple set and they came out pretty nice... did you guys end up finding some white waggies and getting them done?

For a 77 I would look for the 8", there are 7" around as well for
wide track, I do not like them with narrow track axles.

Wow , this is an older thread...

One clarification:
Offset is the distance from its hub mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel (looking at it from the top of the wheel).
Backspacing is the distance measured by laying a straight edge across the back side of the wheel, then measuring from the straight edge to the hub mounting surface.

Mine are nearly done, but I'm wondering how you did the pinstripe? I'm going with a single blue but haven't found any reliable advice on how to apply it.

I have the paint and the $20 brush, just need advice on how to proceed... My best idea was borrow a buddy's F150 and mount them one at a time, spin 'em and paint 'em...

I just painted my ones in red, when it dried up, take adhesive tape with 4mm width, stick it on the rim and paint/spray in white colour,
then remove the tape...

Hmmmmmmmm........... I may try that if I have to. I'm not past the point of no return on the paint job thankfully.

Very nice job on the wheels. Can you tell us about the restoration.Did you sandblast and powdercoat or rattle can or?? Looki'n good. :)mike

They were bead blasted, cleaned, primered, powder coated, then pinstriped by a local painter... they came out very nice.

I had 2 sets done and will put up a set on eBay at some point.

I have a couple sets of 15x8's as well that I will do if these sell.

The downside is the cost... for those of you that say you have $20 into them, that is cool, but blasting and powdercoating prices have gone up a bit recently, so to do them like this costs quite a bit more than what people think.
