I think I've run into a problem with my 7. Here is what I have my 86 CJ7 with a ford T-18 /Dana 300 Transfer Case . It has a 4 inch lift I'm going to need a new drive line the stock one Is maxed out on length. I'm trying to decide what drive line to order. Called Tom Woods up the other day talked to them said I could run a normal drive line with two U joints or I can run a cv drive line. when I'm talking about stock drive shaft I mean a standard a extended shaft. Tom woods said it will work but it will have a vibration.

The question is a little confusing. You mean driveshaft istead of driveline right? And they told you you could run either a solid driveshaft or use a cv one for a better angle correct?

I ran a reg. driveshaft with my 4" lift.
I had to go to a double cardan (cv) shaft when I clocked my t/c though as the angle got to steep.
To run a cv style shaft you will have to rotate your diff to point the yoke at the t/c yoke.
Have you put a protractor on the shaft to see what ya got now.

84 CJ7 , T-176 /177, Dana 300 with 4 inch Rancho lift, I had to lengthen mine. I have 1" drop on my skid. I do not have a vibration. And I am running a normal (just longer)shaft.

Coldair, with my cv joint and rotated diff, I did not have to lower the Transfer Case , and no vibration or shims. With the adapted T-18 , I was able to shave off that bump on the skid plate also and weld in a flat plate due to the added clearance with the adapter. I had my existing driveshaft modified for the cv joint by a local 4wd shop. I would think a driveshaft shop could do it also, but no Tom Woods decal though.

Sorry Pete yes when I say driveline I ment driveshaft. When I talked to them they said I could run a stock style driveshaft just longer or I could go with a CV. I told them with the lift I have and not wanting to run a Transmission /Transfer Case drop they said the CV style would be better for driving on streets but the stock style driveshaft would work just have some vibration.

I have a 4" lift and tried to run the stock drive shaft for the rear. Had it shortened by a local shop. It had quit a bit of vibration, so I went with Tom Woods cv shaft. For the front Tom Woods made a non- cv shaft with extra long slip joint of 7". No vibration and all work fine. I did rotate rear diff up with shims and lowered the Transfer Case with 1" spacers.

Yeah, unfortunately, you will most likely encounter vibration with a standard driveshaft. Im running this combo (T-18 /Dana 300 , 4" lift) and had to drop my tranny 3/4" to eliminate vibration.

Im getting ready to install a flat skid and clock the Dana 300 so I am in the market for a CV driveline.

Front XJ drivelines are CV style, cheap, and easily modified to be used as a rear driveshaft on CJ's with a Dana 300 tc. They are not heavy duty such as the ones Tom Woods sells, but they are also not $300+.....just an idea.

Thank you Jim you have the same setup as I do. As for having a driveshaft lengthened I have a hard time paying $AMC 150 to just retube it.

Take a measurement to humor me. You never know what I have in the garage. :)

Coldair : dials phone frantically

Petescj : heres phone , lets it ring awhile then answers , "Petes Cj parts"

Coldair: " I need a driveshaft 24 in center to center collapsed. Got anything?"

Petescj : " I have Cj parts tucked around all over the place. Let me hunt around"

Coldair: ( thinks Petescj probably dosent but holds on anyway)

Petescj : " Yup got one maybe two like that. Also have one that measured 25 in. with a CV joint."

Coldair : excited " Yayy , what do you want for it? "

Petescj : " You cant afford it." Click , end of call.

Thats the long obnoxious way of telling you yeah I have one. The tape measure is a little decieving in the pic but I can get you a better one. When I held the tape and the u joints were lined up correctly the top one was dead on at 24 in and the bottom one was 25 in.
