Rollovers by idiots and the Feds killed it. YJ went wider and has a lower CG.
Consumer Reports also did some J-turn testing. Basically crank the wheel hard and Duh it rolls.

yea you are correct about the rollover and stability, but the biggest reason was so Cj owners had replacement bodies

X2 on "Consumer Reports" they killed the Three Wheelers, the CJ, the Samurai, then they went crazy on the 73'-8?' Chevy & GMC trucks gas tanks.
It was latter proven that they rigged their test, also used explosives to add to the dramatic effect.
Of coarse that all came out to
late!

When they came out we did call them yuppie jeeps (yj) because they where so car like, with there fancy dash and soft ride, not like a real jeep at all.

Step 1 remove grill.
Step 2 install grill with round lights.

Step 4 Remove the POS Dana 35.
Step 5 remove the slip yoke driveshaft.
Step 6 Remove whatever POS Transmission that came stock.
Step 7 Buy Dana 44
Step 8 buy new driveshaft.
Step 9 buy lift kit.
Step 10 buy Transmission of your choice.
Step 11 buy a whole lot of
Step 12 call your buddies to help.

the thing on the front, is that a snow blower?
That thing keeps the fan from sucking swamp water when it gets deep.
I remember back when the YJ first came out. There were CJ owners that were putting YJ front ends on their Jeeps to make them look newer. Not cool.

Why did Jeep make the YJ???
To sell more jeeps.
And sell they did.
I had to sell my first CJ because I needed to commute 40 miles each way to work at 65+ mph. My CJ was unsafe at 40.(Rusted to BITS)
With my YJ I could do that drive and still be driving a jeep!
The YJ grille is still my favorite. Square headlites are as cool as round fenders.
To sell more jeeps.
