Why did Jeep make the YJ?

Why did Jeep make the YJ?
yea you are correct about the rollover and stability, but the biggest reason was so Cj owners had replacement bodies

And frames that rusted 5X faster than a CJ, so we would feel better as CJ owners.

I've got both a YJ and a CJ and I like them both.

well im sorry to the YJ owners but i dont have much love for square headlights I do however like the springs i pirated from one :chug: jeeps started with round headlights and should stay with em

Why did Jeep make the YJ? (87-95) So us CJ guys would have nice steel bodys to put on our CJ7 's LOL

because the guy that used to work for Coke and changed the original formula (remember that fiasco) found a new job with AMC...and he wanted to screw up again and get paid for it.

Why did Jeep make the YJ???

To sell more jeeps.
And sell they did.
I had to sell my first CJ because I needed to commute 40 miles each way to work at 65+ mph. My CJ was unsafe at 40.(Rusted to BITS)
With my YJ I could do that drive and still be driving a jeep!

The YJ grille is still my favorite. Square headlites are as cool as round fenders.

We need to get you into our recovery program for YJ addiction.:D

Fiasco?
It was one of the most successful sales campaigns in modern history.

I'll bet in a few years collectors will be looking for those square headlight jeeps.

Rollovers by idiots and the Feds killed it. YJ went wider and has a lower CG.

Consumer Reports also did some J-turn testing. Basically crank the wheel hard and Duh it rolls.

Consumer Report may have done some testing but it was Ralph Nader and his band of terrorists (yes that is what he is) that did in the CJ5 and ultimately lead to many of the changes found in the YJ. This is how Nader made (makes) his living, going after big corporations over anything he can exploit. He had done the same thing to GM over the Corvair a few years earlier. If he saw an opportunity he would just sue you to death. CJ sales were lagging in the latter years probably due to the bad PR but the official slant was to appeal to a broader demographic.

I remember seeing a bumper sticker on a CJ YEARS ago that simply said, " Real Jeeps have round headlights."
