When doing a cj spring over axle, why is it better to use YJ springs over the stock cj springs?

WhyJ? Well I'm gona make a guess and will see how I do...Besides the fact that they are wider and reported to flex better etc. They are flatter and when over axle you aren't lifting the CJ to the moon like you would be with the more arched CJ spring.
Just a guess.

thk.webp what he said, I think.

This section from the jeep performance handbook is the simplest i have seen the others all go in huge calculations of friction and surface area etc

Nett answers is for the same spring rate and leaf thickness you need more leaves for a narrower spring than a wide one

Length is also another factor not so much for the CJ vs YJ springs but when you start adding in Cherokee spring leaf's

How many inches of lift will this give me over stock. My plan is to clear 35's

Sprung over, you will probably net 3½-4 inches.

Sprung over, you will probably net 3½-4 inches.

You get the dia. of the axle plus the thickness of the spring pack for sure.
There may also be a difference in how much more or less arch is built into
the spring pack.
As jim said, you usually get 4" give or take an inch.
With 35's you will need to trim some wheelwell's so they don't rub.
