Hey guys! I'm new to the whole blog thing and this site. I just picked up a 79 CJ5 Renegade with the 304v8 that barely runs but runs now till I shut it off. I found a used 97' 360 with an auto Transmission for $250. I want to swap the 360 into the jeep and sell the auto Transmission . I know the mounts work but I need to know what I need to do to convert the 360 to run a carb as well as mate up to the factory 4spd. Also any electrical changes if need be. I do not know yet what 4spd is in the jeep but will find out a soon as I can get under it. A parts list wld be nice but any info will help. Thanx!

Man Im having a hard time finding aftermarket bell housings and adapters for Mopars, you can get a factory NP435 or NV4500 bell housing and flywheel with the corresponding Transmission , the Dodge versions of those transmissions have the same bolt pattern as as the Dana 300 Transfer Case the NV4500 Diesel has a 29 spline output instead of the 23 which can be swapped out. Both of these Transmission are bullet proof

Intake is pretty easy just buy one from Jegs or Summit racing you are looking for parts for a Dodge 360/5.9 Magnum small block I would use a carb in the 600-750 cfm max I love the Edelbrocks since they are so easy to work on and tune i am pretty sure you can buy a carb bracket by now if not fab one up from your old AMC 304 bracket

the motor mounts I think I would try to make the ones that are on the motor work and make new frame brackets to work with them

I would also try to keep the serpentine belt set up if possible, you will have to have power steering hoses made up and make a pig tail for the alternator to tie into your wiring, if you want an earlier v belt set up grab everything from the block forward off another small block the 318/360 are nearly indistinguishable from each other. they are balanced different so the harmonic balancer and flywheel will not interchange

Waaay easier to just use an AMC 360 and be done with it.

Besides the already stated hurdles, you might have trouble getting the emissions testing without going to a referee. Again, as stated, go with an AMC 360 or rebuild the AMC 304 for less headache.

I know this isn't what your asking, but for $250 you can find a running AMC 304 , or if it's carb/ignition problems with the one you have then $250 will most likely fix it.

IF you are set in stone on the 360, I'd keep all the EFI, etc. I could on it. It will run better, smoother and more efficiently than any carb setup. I'll admit I don't know how the computer, etc. works with the 360 and whether or not it relies on the auto Transmission or not, etc... But given that, I'd refer myself back to the first paragraph.
