Will a starter from a 72 fit a 78 cj?

'82 CJ8, 258, D300, AMC20, D30
It should be a bolt in - 6 and 8 cyl are interchangeable. Some sites say 74 and up but I have never had a problem with any starter in my 72.

RIP Mike, we'll all miss you
I know my '88 AMC 360 uses a different starter than my earlier 360 does. But the guy I got the '88 engine from said that a 'normal' starter would work (by swapping something on the bellhousing??I think)
