I am considering replacing the wipers on my 82 CJ7 with ones from a Wrangler. Has anyone seen a dash mount wiper switch with the right plug for the wrangler wiper motor & making possible to use the intermittent option?

I used the 3 way CJ dash monted swich for mine. Had intermitent with the original set up. I used the CJ motor and changed the connector on the motor. can pry it off once the nut is off it will come off. Had problems with the wipers for a while so just swapped in a complete YJ winshield frame glass and wipers. Had to cut vent holes under the YJ frame and on top where the glass is for the long thing defrost vents. Only problem was to enlongate the holes where the winshield nob screws into the dash.

Has anybody seen a way to change out the motor to the original gear box/mounting brackets. something with a bit more muscle ? I would not want to change out the entire windshield frame to get a better motor.

I just checked out Oreilly s and NAPA and they don't sell a wiper motor for a 77 CJ5 . This bothers me just a bit.

So i have to find an upgrade or someone to rewind this one:cool:

Ok, I bought a complete wiper set up for a 87-95 YJ Saturday, Motor, linkage & arms for $80.00. Everything looks like it should all fit, just need to open up the holes for the posts to fit through & then find a switch. If I remember correctly Ford had a small square switch in the F series trucks in the 70's for intermittent wipers that might just fit on the dash. More research & another trip to the pick & pull. I am hoping to get at least the motor & linkage in this weekend. I'll take notes & pics & let you know what happens.

Good luck. Should go smoothly. I recently replaced my linkage and wipers with some from a YJ. I kept my motor and switch though. I would like the intermittent set up though. So you have me thinking now.

I am happy with the YJ linkage so far. I used to get a lot o binding with my XJ set up.

we are going to need pictures with this.

Will do IO, I am going to test fit on my old frame to find the best way to open up the post holes & hopefully get it running on the bench with an intermittent switch. I'll start my search for the switch canidates this afternoon. Wish me luck.:chug:

I'm thinking there's gotta be something in a junkyard for something less. Sure looks nice though.

Gonna need a product review please. :D

All right I must admit I feel like an idiot.
:bang:
There are five wires on the yj motor.
Black
Brown
Green
White
Blue
Which wire goes to what?
I think I have it part way figured out but don't want to show off my stupidity.
The switch is cool and fits in the dash.
Thanks for any help.

go to the pro section of autozone to find diagrams for this one.

does the wiper motor bolt up to the original spot??

I NEED PICTURES!!!!!

I got the linkage & Transmission post in this weekend but did not get the motor and switch working. Just took off the arm from the YJ motor and put it on the CJ motor. This upgrade alone has been worth the time no more slapping, can't even hardly hear them running.:)
I pulled up wiring diagrams for the YJ motor and nothing is what it says it should be. Wire colors do not match & don't function according to the diagrams. Maybe I got a bad motor from the P&P. Waiting to hear from 1 of the engineers of the switch manufacture.
I will put together some pic's this weekend if I get a chance. then I need to learn how to post them.

I know this thread is almost a year old, but I just did the wiper motor swap and found this that a guy posted on another site.

It's really good info and it works-

I have a 1973 CJ5 AMC 304 that I am restoring. It has a 95 yj windshield/wiper motor setup. My 4 wire (+black for ground) yj wiper motor has the blue, white, green, brown, and black wires. I do not have the factory harness for the 3 wire switch, so my wiper motor wiring is as follows...

1. Black goes to a good ground source.
2. Green goes to the park terminal on 3-way switch.
3. Blue goes to the hi speed terminal on 3-way switch.
4. Brown goes to the anode side of an 8 amp 400v diode.
5. Cathode side of diode splices into the white wire.
6. White goes to the low speed terminal on 3-way switch

Warning! Do not splice the brown and white wires without the diode in between them. If both the brown and white wires are connected to the low speed terminal without a diode, the current will flow forward through the white wire and backward through the brown wire when the switch is turned on telling the motor to run and park at the same time. That is bad.

Why the diode? The diode will not allow the current to flow backward through the brown wire when you turn the switch to low or high. When the switch is turned off, the current passes through the brown wire to the low speed on the motor so it will properly park.

can you post some pictures on how you mounted the 95 wiper motor on the 73 CJ please?

IO i got mine last year at 4WParts, $53.09, P# CRO 5453956, it works in my 77-7, and they had it in stock with the (switch$18.99). hope this helps.:chug:

Sorry, I should have clarified a bit more, I put a '93 wiper motor in my '81. I just used his info to wire up that motor to my '81 switch(without the intermittent part). :o
