Hey all,

I am having an issue where my wipers stop working after a few minutes. I thought maybe the motor was going bad so I replaced it...problem persists. I did some searching and found people have this problem with aftermarket windshield frames; however, mine is original. Any ideas?

Sounds like your linkage is binding up. May have worn pivots....

Would taking it apart and putting white lithium grease on the pivots fix this?

If they’re dry, yes. If they’re worn, probly not. One of these days I’m gonna get off my big ol lazy butt and rig up a linage set that uses heim joints. I am running a YJ frame and wiper linkage, and I had to replace the pivot points. Mine were plastic and would separate...... Still not real confidant in em.... hence the desire to heim it up LOL. Check all pivot points both at the wiper arm and motor linkage. If it’s locking up it may me going past center, which would most likely be due to wear. Lay the windshield down, pop the plastic covers, and see what’s going on in there when you turn the wipers on......

I found a post detailing using heim joints and threaded rod to replace the factory linkage. I ordered all the stuff from McMaster so hopefully next week I can post fancy upgraded wipers.

There ya go -

Heim joint system seems to work well! Ordered everything from McMaster and it went together easily.

Any part numbers ? Pictures ?

Ok, yeah I follow that guy he has mass quantities of great write ups. Just lives east of me.

Something to keep in mind...note the orientation of the motor arm before you take it off. I didn't and now my wipers are parking in the up position. Now I have to take it all apart and rotate the arm 180*
