Like most of you I have an old jeep that has had the pollution controls and computer disconnected leaving a bunch of wires and plugs dangling in the engine bay. I'd like to clean it up but I'm a little reluctant to start cutting wires willy nilly. Does anyone know of some good source material/instructions on how to do it?

It's really pretty easy. Just start with the diagnostic connector on the side of the battery. The whole thing is almost it's own separate harness.
If you do cut a wire, start the CJ !!! It's easier to figure out if you cut a needed wire when you do it, not at the end when you have cut a bunch. :)

The only wire that needs to be cut and repliced is the choke wire IIRC. It's part of a six wire connector.

Very helpful. Thanks. What about the big bunch that come out of the fire wall on the other side of the battery? I'm assuming it was connected to the old computer that was situated on top of the heater box.

Caution: Confirm if the circuit is 'hot' before you cut.
When you cut pass the insulation the tool then becomes 'hot' and if that tool is grounded somehow. You'll do some damage besides scare'n the :dung: out of yourownself.

Not to mention winding up with wire dikes that look more like wire strippers.... ask me how I know that...

I would suggest you get a color wiring diagram for you particular year of Jeep. Then you will know what circuits are what. Here's a good one: Jeep | Prospero's Garage

Thanks for all your suggestions. I will move forward cautiously.

Well the wiring harness cleanup project is complete. Thanks to all for you suggestions and assistance. A special thanks to yellow85cj for his expertise and hands on assistance. He lives close to me and offered to guide me through the process.
