1984 CJ-8 Restomod Scout axles 4 wheel disks, 258, ax15, D300.
Well I finally found a CJ8 to build into a wheeler that can fit me and the family plus gear, umlike my CJ5 . He was asking $2500 and I talked him down to $2250 plus he added another running AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l for spares. The body is rough but usable for wheeling and the frame is damn good for never being touched. The last time this Jeep was registered was in 1994 and it sat in a garage for the last 8 years.
I have lots of plans for it including building my spare Scout Dana 44s and also do a CJ7 top with better doors. nothing is set in stone for my suspension but I am leaning towards the axle swap right now. I plan on running 35 inch mud terrains on 15x8 rims. The motor is staying stock, no V8 like my 5 to keep the parts together and I most likely will pull the T-5 to put in a more stout tranny. The usual protection will be install like a full cage and rocker guards. I have a winch and plate already plus the high lift jack and straps. I am going to build the same bumpers I made for my 5 with the swing out tire carrier. So far that where it stops right now. I will change them a 100 times over before I am done cleaning up the frame I am sure. Here are some pics of the beast.

Looks like you'll keep busy over the winter months :chug: Nice score!

PS and PB too! you did good pal.
I have to ask, what is the wire from the steering column to where the Wiper motor should be??

That's power for the motor. The window frame is new and wasn't installed when I bought the jeep. I also have a new windshield and gasket wrapped up. The wiper motor is in a box with the seat belts.

That is what I suspected but I had never seen anybody rewire quite like that before, creative, very creative.:D
I am still impressed, I think you paid a good price for something you wanted.

Im with IO on this one. Looks like a solid candidate for a family wheeling Jeep. Have fun, wheeling a CJ8 is slightly different than a CJ5 :chug:. I had mine on some mild trails last week and I was dragging the rear a bit. Mine is stock hieght with 31s though. How are you going about getting the lift for 35s? S.o.a. and maybe a small body lift with the dana 44s sounds about right. Depending on the body condition maybe some trimming of the sheetmetal instead of adding the extra hieght of the body lift? Heres an idea for a different style top. Heres a shot of a custom soft top that was made out of a CJ7 top with added material.

I like that top alot! and that 8 im jealous!

I love Cj8s:drool:. I am surprised you found one that cheap. I was originally in the market for on but ended going for a CJ7 fo 5000. I couldnt find even a rusted out CJ8 for under 5000:(

If your keeping the 6 you should put some research into the 4.0 head conversion and TBi or MPI so you can get some more power.:chug:

I have a friend who is going to try to make a CJ8 top custom out of two busted CJ7 tops

OH the body is bad. There is hack welded in sheetmetal everywhere and big holes under the tub. The front clip is rust free though which is nice. Both sides are filled with bondo enough that the Jeep logo is gone. As of right now I do plan on the SOA but I have considered installing my BDS lift off the CJ5 since I wanted to shorten that Jeep a little to get a better street ride quality. More than likely the cost issue will prevail at least for now and I will do that instead. I also plan to use the 15x10 rims off my CJ5 .

Nice find.:chug:
